I didn't need to change the default settings of these protocols, but a VPN user with more specific needs might appreciate the ability to do so. Mullvad allows you to configure its Wireguard and OpenVPN protocols more than some other VPNs do. Although I don't feel the need for this particular safeguard, someone who regularly uses the internet for very sensitive activities might appreciate it. When enabled, this requires you to be connected to the VPN in order to do anything online. Mullvad's "lockdown mode" stood out to me. I also thought they were simple to navigate, with obvious ways to select different settings and features, mostly using on/off toggle buttons. Settings and Features: I easily found Mullvad's settings menus in the Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS apps. I thought this made the dashboard more visually interesting but didn't add meaningful functionality. The world map rotates to the country where the server you connected to is located, and a green dot indicates the city location. Once you connect, another button lets you easily switch servers, which I found convenient. Clicking on that server brings up a server list sorted by country and city and you can choose a different server. Primary Controls: There's a connect button below the selected VPN server. For a friendly touch, Mullvad's logo (a mole) is in the upper left corner. The city and country where the last server you connected to is located are clearly displayed.
